In recent months, the Trump administration announced termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghanistan, Cameroon, Nepal, Venezuela, and most recently Haiti, amidst contentious litigation in federal court.

On May 13, 2025, DHS announced that Afghanistan’s TPS designation will formally terminate on July 14, 2025. Afghanistan now joins Cameroon (ending August 4, 2025), Nepal (August 5, 2025), Venezuela (April 7, 2025), and Haiti (September 2, 2025). Litigation concerning the termination of the 2023 Venezuelan TPS designation remains ongoing, but the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling on May 19, 2025, allowing DHS to proceed with termination. As of June 2025, the 2021 Venezuela TPS designation remains in effect until September 10, 2025.
