Congress Adjourns Without Passing Sought-After Immigration Proposals

The 117th Congress adjourned and came to a close after the U.S. House of Representatives approved a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill that avoids a government shutdown, provides miliary, humanitarian and economic assistance for Ukraine, natural disasters assistance, and increased funding for the military as well as on federal health education, labor and economic programs, among a myriad of other provisions. The 4,100-page bill did not, however, include the Afghan Adjustment Act, a path to citizenship for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, or border enforcement proposals, much to the disappointment of the immigration community. The bill becomes law when President Biden signs it.
