On June 4, 2025, the White House issued new travel bans. Effective June 9, 2025, people from certain countries are completely banned from traveling to the United States, while people from others are partially banned. The ban applies to people who are outside of the United States and do not have a valid visa as of June 9, 2025. The rationale behind the bans is that the countries subject to the bans do not have adequate identity verification measures in place or support terrorism, which could lead to national security risks entering the United States. Another stated rationale is that nationals from some of the banned countries have a higher rate of overstaying nonimmigrant visas than others.
